This Is Us

Heyyy y’all!

Welcome to Summer On The Coast blog! My name is Summer and I live in sunny Florida with my husband (Matt) + our three children + two poodles. Matt and I are both employed full time and we do various home design projects as a side hustle. We have recently completed a beach condo renovation, a foreclosed home reno/flip, and are currently working on our own custom built coastal farmhouse in Panama City, Florida.

Matt is the brawn of the operation and I am so thankful to have him on this crazy ride. He is a type A perfectionist who is always up for a good challenge. He’s our financial manager and I think he lives to burst my champagne budget dreams. (Seriously, though, he leads and guides us with level-headed practicality that I am not capable of hahaha). I am the dreamer, the visionary, and the online shopping expert for our projects. I love our partnership and how these projects have grown us both individually and as a married team. We constantly strive to keep Jesus Christ at the center of our marriage and to love each other with grace, humility, and many, many second chances.

I have been working as a physical therapist in the Florida panhandle since 2005 and currently I practice in a home health setting. I am a proud alumna of the University of Florida …… GO Gators! I owner-built my first home when I was a 24 year old single mother (with loads of family support) and although it was tedious, I fell in love with the home construction process (there is nothing cooler than watching your design dreams come to life) and knew I would be doing it again as soon as I got the chance!

Matt hails from Louisville, Kentucky, is an active duty member of our great military, and a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. When Matt purchased his first home he actually paid someone to come and change his door locks. Now, he is a weekend warrior, loves the “high” of completing projects, and can usually be found wandering the aisles of Home Depot. Matt faithfully cheers for the Louisville Cardinals and is an avid poet + rhyme maker. He pours a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into all of our projects, and he enjoys sharing the lessons he has learned to help with others’ endeavors.

Be sure to check out my instagram (@summer_onthecoast) to follow along our projects and to see the home spaces I share that inspire us.

All the blue skies and sunshine,
