Let’s Talk Fall, y’all

Happy Fall, y’all 🍁 It’s turned into sweater weather, kinda 😬 We have definitely had a cool down in Florida since Hurricane Sally visited us last week. Our daylight hours are still very warm but these mornings are crisp + cool. And every year when that first chilly morning arrives I get the blues; I’m definitely not sad but it just feels like someone burst my summertime bubble 😟😅 Anyone else get that way? It surely seems like most people love the cooler weather and all things fall. I usually get perked up for college football season but this year even that isn’t catching my interest. So I’m shifting my focus to harvest! The best thing about fall is Thanksgiving 🦃 GIMME that turkey and dressing 😁

Anyway, this week’s blog post is a modge podge of topics because I have several things I want to share. So I’ll get to it:

First, I wanted to re-introduce myself in case you’re new here. My name is Summer! I am a full time physical therapist by day 🌞 and instagrammer of beautiful home design by night 🌚 Outside of home design + construction, I love crafting, sewing, embroidering, hand lettering, fishing, online shopping, and I generally just love making things pretty 🌸 and saving money 💵 My husband, Matt, and I have been married over five years and we have three children. My oldest son just started his first year of college, and my two girls are ages three and 11 months. We just finished owner building our coastal farmhouse in the Florida panhandle and we also recently completely a full renovation flip home and we purchased a beach condo here on PCB and remodeled it as well. (See my first few blog posts for more info on our recent projects.)

Secondly, I wanted to help you welcome Fall into your kitchen by sharing some of my favorite hearty comfort foods. Our easy-peasy family favorites: Stuff Stew, Taco Soup, and my Memaw’s Southern Cornbread Recipe. And it’s a darn good thing Memaw doesn’t know how to work the Internet or else she might give me a good chewin’ at our next Sunday dinner. JK she wouldn’t do that, but I’m still glad she can’t 🤣 For Memaw’s cornbread: mix 1.5 cups of meal with 1 heaping tbsp of self rising flour and salt to taste. Add water until you get a pancake batter-like mixture. Grease your cast iron skillet. Spoon mixture in and use back of spoon to make a dent which you fill with oil (we use EVOO but Memaw swears by vegetable oil). Bake at 500 degrees for 20 min then broil for 2 min or until golden on top. You’re welcome.

Thirdly, it’s Wayfair’s Way Day sales! YAY! Below is a gallery of some of my current faves. Linking these plus more to my Insta-stories if you want to shop the sale! Click HERE

hope you enjoyed our fall chat! Talk next week 😀 In the meantime you can find me on Instagram HERE.

happy fall,
